Just looks like a cool number, doesn't it?

So I think we should make some cool predictions to go with it... I'll start:

In 2010... an actual superhero will come from outer space and protect us from bad guys.

Oh, and Happy New Year!

In 2010... Monkeys will attempt to take over the world, but because we've all seen Planet Of The Apes we're better prepared than ever and kill them all.

In 2010 ... Mark will invent a condom that doesn't take any feeling away and will become a millionaire in a day.

Do we get a prize if our prediction comes true?

In 2010, people will start saying twenty ten instead of two-thousand ten.

No?

Man that would be insane. If the condom was stable enough not to break plus a no-plastic bag feeling=win. I would mail you just a million condoms to your house. However for Post-UG I have no clue what I am doing. Right now, I am doing nothing related to chemistry as pertaining to material science/engineering. I might go to Med School(if grades/money permits) or go the way of my brother to OCS(yet again, if grades/testing application works).

I refuse to call it twenty-ten. I have to say two-thousand ten. No one said twenty O' Nine.

PS: JM did you get my PM. I have a few more questions for ROTC vs OCS etc.

so i went to an indian casino near here on new years eve and lost 80$. it was a fun time tho, and playd all night for $80. every once in awhile its worth doing. i learned how to play craps and roulette (my new favorite game). i was up until the blackjack tables, and got my ass kicked. i kept getting dealt fuckin 13s and 14s and there was about a 30 minute period where the dealer didnt bust once. i wish i was really smart and could like scope out hot tables like in the movies, and then count cards. but alas i cant.

anyway, new years eve was fun, im sure everyone else had a good time. any good stories?

Scoping a table is easy. Just count the number of value-10 cards (10, J, Q, K) vs numbered cards. If you determine a high ratio of face cards to number cards then the deck plays in your favor. I'd try to play a table that had nearly a 1:1 ratio for ten minutes before sitting down. You can't really count cards (effectively), since the number of decks used is unknown, shuffled in various order, and replenished at any given time. What you do know is that for every 52 cards there exists 4 cards of each value. So, let's say we see 14 cards with a value of ten and 18 cards with a value less than that. The likelyhood of drawing another value-10 card will be 1/10 compared to 9/10 for a safer card if we assume a 52 card deck. Basically, if the table has played a lot of high value cards before you sit down, it's safer for you to hit, because the deck is now stacked with cards of lower value.

Wow, I really want to gamble!

Somehow that explanation has made me want to invest in Aaron's gambling skills... :-)

I remember that several years ago I actually played AA on New Years Eve. I actually celebrated midnight online... And there were a lot of people online too. Wow, what geeks we were...

I spent New Year's Eve in DC this year with my dad. I don't have a good story though. I can't wait to see how they make those New Year's glasses next year.

i was at my friend's house with his family and indirectly got his little sister really drunk. there was a lot of me saying "you won't drink that all right now." whenever she stole my beers. it was awesome.

aaron, if there are an unkown number of decks, shuffled in various orders and replenished at anytime, could you really ever determine if a table was hot or not, especially if they could just reshuffle the cards at anytime. i wasnt paying attention at the casino i was at, all i saw was they occasionally put all the cards (like a half dozen decks' worth) into a big machine to shuffle them and then put them in a little slider device to help them quickly and efficiently deal. ill pay attention next time to whether they wait till all the cards are used or if they just randomly decide to shuffle them as that would make a big difference.

saint, yall have much better casinos in europe. yalls roullette only has one green zero. some asshole american thought the house didnt make enough money as it is and decided to add a double zero as well. gay. roullette is one of the more unfair games in the houses favor but its still fun. i bet aaron would be really good at it, and just good at gambling in general cause hes really lucky.

and on spending new years eve online... the difference between us spending NYE online and most people is that we are actually awesome; we are so fun to hang out with that we enjoyed each others virtual company over the many actual people we all knew nearby and could have been hanging out and wasting our times with if we so chose. the difference being we could choose.

the sad nerds are the ones who spend holidays like that alone because they just have no friends lol. and many of the "cool" people who party hard with real people are fucking annoying douche bags who ruin the eperience with all their douche baggery.

but yeah, that being said WoW is a really gay fuckin game Razz
matt, im sure you were more enjoying the teamspeak aspect of it tho Razz

haha lauren i havent thought of that. if i designed them, they would have the 2 off to the side of the head, and the 1 running along the nose/between the eyes, and the two 0's obviously strattling the 1 over the eyes. now 2011 is gonna be a touch nut to crack.

I don't believe they stop play to shuffle the cards. I've not been to a casino, but I presume they play every card in the 6 decks before a freshly shuffled card comes into play. And I'm pretty sure they preshuffle the next set of cards and slide them behind the original decks, and I also imagine that they hide the fact that they've added more decks at a lot of casinos. By "shuffled in various orders" I meant that you could have all 6 decks shuffled together, which might produce the occaional run of 24 aces played in a row. Or they could shuffle two decks together, and another two decks together and play them behind the first decks, and a final two decks.

But you can count if a table is hot, because regardless of the number of decks, or shuffling processes, the ratio of high cards to low cards will always be the same. You just have to keep track as you play, because the ratio will constantly change. So, my strategy would be to scope a table with a near 1:1 ratio of high value cards to low value cards. Play that table, and continue to keep track of the cards with a simple formula. Maybe: (starting at zero) +1 for each card less than 9 and -1 for each card more than 9. The closer we stay at or below zero, the better the cards play in our favor. As soon as I get to +50 it's time to bail out.

All of you guys had exciting breaks. On NYE, I had to be up at 4am in 15 degree weather to remove christmas lights/christmas material outside of my house.

I didn't want to put up Christmas lights, so on Christmas Eve I just put the house across the street on fire... Mofo burned all night!
